This could be called HDR, overlaying three photos at different exposures. It was an accident, but came out surprisingly well. I used a straight photo of the road exposed for ambient light, and overlaid two more drastically underexposed photos of headlights in Photoshop using a “screen” blending mode. Equipment: Sony A7R, Zeiss FE 55mm, 15 sec, f/1.8 (background), f/11 (car lights), ISO 1600 (background), ISO 100 (car lights). Copyright 2014 Samuel Morse.

This is the only time I actually did catch a lightning even I was not meaning too. I left my camera on a tripod bossed around by a remote (wanted to get the incoming clouds formation)

on the 300 pictures I found one with this super small lighting.. no lightings before, no lightings after, no rain!

Phiniox: “I just wanted to share my initial experience modifying the Sony E 16mm f2.8 for full frame.

Without the modification; the needed crop is 1.25x resulting in 20mm ~15mp (4800x3200px). With the mod this reduced to 1.09x – 17.5mm 20.1mp (5500x3666px). So being that the A7 in APS-C crop mode makes 10mp files I recovered an extra 10 megapixels. Shooting at F8+ with the use of heavy lens correction can the vignetting and distortion is be cleaned to produce very usable results. I may actually prefer the crop SEL16F28 to my Tokina AF 19-35mm f3.5-4.5 A Mount. A 200 dollar native ultra wide is an attractive option to other more expensive solutions.

New official Sony A7s Low Light test: Now you can record what couldn’t be recorded before!

The video on top has just been posted on Sony’s Youtube channel. And I bet that after you saw this you will shout…WOW!!! Now you can take images where you couldn’t record them before! I think the A7s could become a new sort of drug. Once you take it you will never get back. The High ISO performance of the camera not only allows you to see where you didn’t se before. You can also have very short shutter timing at medium low light conditions (and that’s probably the biggest plus for photographers).

Damn, now I want to get the A7s too! Sony, if you read me…can you send me one for free?
