Leica will launch a RX1 competitor on June 11.

According to MirrorlessRumors Leica will launch the very first Sony RX1 competitor on June 11. It looks like a more compact Leica Monochrome. Has an 28mm Summilux f/1.7 lens, built-in EVF and image stabilization.

Of course the Leica will be very expensive compared to the RX1. But while Sony has nothing to “fear” from Leica. I guess what is killing the RX1 sales is their own A7 series that offers much more versatility in a not too much bigger package. The RX2 if it ever comes has to bring some clear technological highlight like the curved sensor we saw on so many patents.

DxO still lists the 55mm FE Zeiss as the best autofocus lens on the market. And if you want to save $223 on it than you may consider to purchase it as Grey Imported but with full 3 year US seller warranty at GetDigital on eBay (Click here).

P.S.: I am curious to see if the new Batis 85mm lens will match or even surpass the 55mm FE performance.

Chad Wadsworth (Click here) shared a first impression of the new Batis lenses he tested:

Batis 25mm: Where the FE 28mm is in-your-face sharp, the Batis looks a bit smoother, yet zoom in to pixel peep and bam, there’s the same level of sharpness and micro contrast. The render of the Batis very much reminds me of the ZA 24mm f/2 but without all the field curvature AF issues that were endemic to that A-mount lens.

Batis 85mm: Focus was quick and sure – and dead on accurate. Pixel peeping shows an impressive amount of sharpness and detail at f/1.8. Having previously owned the legendary ZA 85/1.4 I have been anxiously awaiting an FE replacement but was concerned that the lens would be too large or too slow. Again with the Goldilocks reference but the Batis seems to nail it with just the right dimensions, weight and image quality.

(SR3) Sony RX camera announcement in June?

RX100m4 may has a larger FT sensor similar to the one of the LX100.

One source told me the new RX camera(s) will be announced in June. It’s rumored that there will be a new RX100m4 camera and maybe a new RX FF (curved sensor?) too. Another new Dutch source told me the RX100m4 will be in stores in The Netherlands as soon as July (2015).

What features are you hoping to see on the new RX100m4 if it comes?
