Sony A7rII to ship in late July in USA and Australia. Early August in Europe.

There is some confusion about the shipping date of the new A7rII. Sony officially stated the camera will ship in August. But different stores give different dates:

USA:
July 28 at BHphoto (Click here)
August 30 at Amazon (Click here)
Europe:
August 7 at Cameta Germany (Click here).
Asia:
Late July at CameraPro Australia (Click here).

New Nikon F to Sony E-mount electronic autofocus adapter coming soon!

Electronic E-mount adapters are highly requested but difficult to make. We have electronic adapter for Canon EF from Metabones (Click here) and Kipon (Click here). And also an electronic adapter for Contax from Techart (Click here).

But now we are close to get a very important new electronic adapter for Nikon F lenses! Xjirumo spotted that adapter made by an unnamed chinese company. It’s said that the adapter is almost ready for production. This really would be a BIG good news for all those Nikon lens owners that want to use their lenses with full autofocus and electronic aperture control on the Sony E-mount cameras! And in particular those of you who preordered the new Sony A7rII can epxect the autofocus performance to be “decent” thanks to the hybrid AF system! I hope to get some more info about the adapter soon.

A7rII Autofocus tests:
These are three new videos made to show the autofocus performance of the new A7rII. Sony still didn’t allow journalists to record videos on their SD cards so we have to wait a couple of weeks more before to see real more “scientific” tests.

Kai says the A7rII has killed the Canon 5Ds 50 Megapixel camera!

Kai and the A7rII:
This week the Canon 5Ds 50 Megapixel camera started to ship via many stores like Amazon US. But the new A7rII really stole the spotlight from the Canon. Even not-so-Sony-friendly Kai from Digitalrev just posted an article saying the A7rII is a “Canon 5Ds R Killer“:

High-resolution, 5-axis stablisation, 4k video, faster autofocus, better shutter – these are not marginal improvements but rather changes of a colossal scale. Other camera manufacturers should take note: the a7R II is how a product update should be done.

When you look at what Canon are coming up with and then what Sony are doing, you can’t help but think that Canon are holding something back, playing it safe. In this comparison, there is no comparison because it has become quite apparent that Sony is the one that we should be eagerly anticipating to make the next big moves.

My thoughts: I believe the Sony A7rII 42MP files will match the Canon 5Ds files in terms of resolution because of the newers Sony sensor technology. And I have no doubt dynamic range will be higher ont he Sony! Can’t wait to see the comparison between the two to see if I was right with my speculations!
