First move from Canon: 50,6 Megapixel Full Frame camera real images!

It’s now months that we talk about Canon and Sony being ready to launch a 50 megapixel Full Frame cameras. There is even some weird rumor that the Canon will use the Sony 50MP sensor. And now we got first image of the new Canon 5Ds camera which uses that 50.6MP full-size CMOS sensor! From Digicameinfo via Canonwatch (full specs here).

The news matters because:

1) I got that kind of CanonSony 50 MP rumors from my sources. So it’s highly likely that if the Canon rumor is correct than also the Sony High Megapixel camera rumors are correct

2) It will be interesting to see if there is indeed a partnership on the Canon-Sony sensor front. And it we have to see what kind of consequences this will have.

3) At that point Sony cannot wait too long to launch the A7rII (or A9) with 50MP sensor!

Now let’s hope I can finally get a release date for the new A7rII (or A9)!!!! Stay tuned on SAR!

Canon-Sony partnership on new 50MP sensor?

Stefan from CanonWatch reports about a possible “unexpected” partnership between Sony and Canon:

In other words, and according to the source, Canon and Sony will agree on a patent exchange to produce a 53MP sensor for Canon’s upcoming high resolution DSLRs. This sensor would keep the Exmor technology, and feature Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF. The best of both worlds someone may say. Sony would still sell sensors to Nikon, but without the Dual Pixel AF (it is for sure not a problem for Sony to mass-produce slightly different lines of sensors).

I havent heard about such a partnership from my sources. But I think that this partnership would certainly make sense for both manufacturers to save some costs. Something necessary if you know the system camera market is shrinking dramatically (Source: Cipa on 43rumors).

Canon versus Sony 50 Megapixel battle. Is it madness or not?

Both, Canon and Sony are rumored to launch new 50 megapixel Full Frame sensor cameras within the next months. And I guess Nikon will follow the trend and use 50MP (Sony) sensors too. As pointed out by Diglloyd:

50 megapixels vs 36 is 1.18X the linear resolution. In other words, you can make a 42-inch wide print instead of 36-inch wide, all other things being equal, which they most definitely will not be. That’s your best case, barring some other kind of improvement.

So the questions is. Does the extra resolution increase really matter for you?

A long time source got information that the new Sony A7rII is coming with a 50 Megapixel sensor. I am right now asking him when the camera will be announced and how it looks. Stay tuned, got the feeling he can tell me more and that the camera is coming sometimes…soon

Over a month ago I told you that the new Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 lens was the first lens designed by Tamron that is capable of resolving the future Sony (and Canon) FulL Frame 50 megapixel sensor resolution. It’s rumored that both Sony and Canon will launch those cameras this year. And starting from today the Tamron lens can be preordered for the first time for Sony A-mount at Adorama (Click here).

Now let’s hope it wont take to long until we get a proper A-mount camera to take advantage of that lens

Sony press conference on February 13 at 11:30 Tokyo time.

The big CP+ show starts on February 12 with the companies press conferences to announce their new products. Sony will actually have their press conference on February 13 at 11:30 Tokyo time. Hiroki Nagaham from Sony will talk for 45minutes and the title of his speech is:

“The world of super-high sensitivity of α7s, and the technology of supporting it”

Sony will surely release the new FE lenses and likely also show an updated FE lens roadmap. My trusted sources got reliable info on new cameras like the High Megapixel E-mount FF, A7000, RX curved sensor camera. But they could not tell me yet when Sony will actually announce them. I am yet not sure Sony will announce one or more of these cameras at CP+. Sony lately has quite a strange policy to announce their camera AFTER the big shows like it happened with the A7II that has been announced 2 months after Photokina. Still, I am confident at least one new camera is coming at CP+

I just got this….

“New high end A7R MK2 being spoken about at Sony and an announcement in the coming weeks. I know there is rumors about an ‘A9′ and they may be referring to this model, or perhaps there will be two models – or Sony may stick to A7R II as the new model.”

Let’s hope we will finally get the new High Megapixel FE camera!
